La granulazione a umido lega le polveri con un liquido: la miscelazione rapida (GHL) forma la massa umida, quindi l'estrusione (SET) o la nebulizzazione a letto fluido (FL, PGL) modella ed essicca i granuli in un unico passaggio; il rivestimento Wurster (FLP) stratifica i rivestimenti sulle particelle. La granulazione a secco compatta le polveri senza aggiunta di liquidi: i granulatori oscillanti (YK) e a cestello (ZLB) frantumano i panetti secchi in granuli, mentre la compressione a secco (GKDH) compatta a rulli le polveri fini direttamente in granuli, una soluzione adatta a formulazioni sensibili all'umidità.
