In operation, the rotating drum picks up material as a thin film. Heat transfers from the inner to the outer wall, effectively evaporating moisture, while an internal scraper continuously converts the dried film into flake-like product in a short time.

A Drum Scraper Dryer for Continuous Film Drying of Pastes
SINOTHERMO's drum scraper dryer — a contact drum dryer, also called a drum flaker — coats a heated rotating drum with a thin film of pasty or viscous material. Heat conducts from the inner to the outer wall to evaporate moisture, and an internal scraper continuously removes the dried film as flakes, giving fast, continuous drying for thick, hard-to-handle feeds.
- Material adheres to the drum as a thin film, so heat conducts quickly through the wall and evaporates moisture in a short residence time.
- An internal scraper continuously removes the dried film from the drum surface, converting it directly into flake-like solid product.
- Handles thick, sticky and viscous materials that are difficult to dry in tray, fluid bed or spray equipment.
- Reaches a consistent 5–8% moisture content in the discharged flakes for stable downstream handling or packaging.
- An optional cooling stage brings the dried flakes to a lower discharge temperature before collection.
